We had the pleasure of speaking with Counsul General Louise Blais of Canada at the Business Council of Alabama's (BCA) legislative reception earlier this week. The Canadian government has sixteen offices throughout the United States (one embassy, twelve consulates general - including one in Atlanta, and three trade) that provide services and resources to Canadians and Americans. It was a blessing to catch up with colleagues at last week's Legislative Prayer Breakfast, which offers words of encouragement on a weekly basis during Session. Thank you to Joe Godfrey of ALCAP and to all who coordinate and attend this meaningful method of fellowship.
Thank you to chef Jim Smith for preparing impeccable desserts for us while visiting the Governors' Mansion. In addition to being an executive chef for the State of Alabama, the incredibly talented Jim Smith recently made the top 10 on the television show Top Chef!
It was standing-room only at Monday's meeting with the Madison County Legislative Delegation. Thank you to all who serve in public office, and thank you to everyone who participated (and continues to participate) in the process!
Thank you to everyone who coordinated and participated in Alabama Federation of Republican Women's Legislative Days 2017. It is always a blessing to gather and learn with friends from around our state!
A special piece of chocolate with the shape of the state of Alabama on it <3 - What a "sweet" way to celebrate our state, purchase from a local establishment (Pizelle's Confections), and commence the CVB's "I Heart Huntsville" campaign!
Thank you to the Huntsville-Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau for the wealth of knowledge they provide residents and visitors in our area.
We can always count on the CVB's hospitality; they are one of the many reasons #iheartHSV! On Friday, the Huntsville Madison County Convention & Visitor's Bureau held an indoor pop-up market featuring various Green Street Market vendors, like Wayne Falkenberg, who uses Sylacauga marble to make beautiful cross necklaces.
Thank you, Mr. Falkenberg, for your talent; the cross necklace is a gift our daughter will always treasure! New business and industry is exciting. It means job creation and oftentimes an improved quality of life. I am looking forward to spring, which lends itself to many ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremonies in Huntsville and around the state!
Today is World Cancer Day. That being said, I am honored to have spent time at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology learning about Cancer, Genomics, and Precision Medicine.
If we are going to develop a cure for cancer, it is going to happen here, in Huntsville, at HudsonAlpha. You can do it, HudsonAlpha. I know you can. Sincerely, Nicole Jones It was great to catch up with colleagues from around the state for the Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA) Winter Conference in Montgomery. Together we discussed a myriad of strategies and heard from guest speakers from the FBI, Google, Alabama Department of Commerce, and more.
Thank you to everyone at the EDAA who coordinated such an insightful conference! Entrepreneurship is a key sector we are spearheading throughout the state of Alabama. Local entrepreneurs like Lauri Maxson visit the local networking group entitled "Hot Coffee" to collaborate with business people from a variety of industries. The group meets every other Friday from 7:45AM to 9:30AM at the HudsonAlpha campus. Thank you to Vicki Morris and to all of the organizers of the Hot Coffee meetings for recognizing the value of exchanging ideas.
