Today is the National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme is derived from James 5:16, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
The Freedom From Religion Foundation challenged the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer. In 2011, the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit dismissed the case based on standing without ruling on the day's legality. “Those who do not agree with a president’s statement may speak in opposition to it, they are not entitled to silence the speech of which they disapprove,” wrote the appellate court’s chief judge Frank Easterbrook, appointed by President Ronald Reagan. The Alliance Defense Fund (now referred to as the Alliance Defending Freedom) provided the defense for observance of the National Day of Prayer. All Americans are encouraged to pray on this day. Today we pray for the needs, spoken and unspoken, of all Alabamians. #Our67 Picture from a visit to the Congressional Prayer Room, Washington DC Comments are closed.
