Heritage Landing Ceremony

8/24/2022

Today Drummond Coal, the State of Alabama, Walker County Economic Development Authority, and local officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for Heritage Landing, which will combine residential and commercial space and create economic opportunities within Walker County for generations. Thank you to all involved in this project located along I-22 at Exit 78. A $3 million dollar federal grant administered by the Alabama Department of Labor through their Abandoned Mine Land Program is used to rehabilitate abandoned coal mines for economic development purposes. This makes abandoned mine areas obviously safer as well as revenue generating. #Our67 #MixedUseDevelopment

Little Free Pantries in Downtown Cullman

8/18/2022

Located in downtown Cullman, this is one of the nicest Little Free Pantries we have seen. Vents in the back keep the compartment from getting too hot, and folks can obtain bags on the bottom from the baskets. #Our67 #community

Wellborn Cabinet

Picture

GOOD NEWS - Wellborn Cabinet expands into Oxford, AL : Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. takes pride in its Made in the USA product line. It was this time last year that officials announced their expansion in Ashland, Alabama (Clay County), and now for the second time within about a year, the company decided to invest in our state. The home cabinetry leader specified that positive communication and relationships built within the Oxford and surrounding communities helped solidify their decision to build a 250,000 square foot facility within Oxford West Industrial Park. Another important factor in Wellborn’s newest location choice was access to the interstate (1-20). Proximity to transportation is a critical element in the site selection process. We are thankful for Wellborn and look forward to the grand opening of their new plant in the autumn of 2024.

Farm to School Grants

8/15/2022

GOOD NEWS : Farm to School grants have lifelong benefits for children, families, and communities. The grants give children access to more nutritious options sourced by local farmers, and students learn how to make healthful food choices. This is a good start to helping combat the food deserts that many of our rural and economically impoverished areas experience.

Federal Reserve Building Birmingham, Alabama

8/10/2022

The former Federal Reserve bullding in Birmingham is an excellent example of how to use federal tax credits for construction renovations. The building was constructed in 1926, with an annex added in 1958, and both structures on are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The present owner retained original features such as stone cladding, large steel windows, and a hipped copper roof. The adaptive reuse element gives the building character; the former bank vaults have been made into hallways and common area restrooms for the office space. #Our67

The Postal Museum

8/9/2022

While in Washington DC, Tim and I walked to the Postal Museum. It was our first time to visit the museum and a heartwarming experience, especially because Tim collects stamps. As part of the tour, visitors can choose six stamps. I was able to find a Montgomery Streetcar, and Tim found Air Mail stamps no longer in circulation. #Our67 #USA

Matthew 5:14-16

8/9/2022

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16

James Hardie Expands its Prattville Facility

8/5/2022

GOOD NEWS - James Hardie expands its Prattville facility: James Hardie is a leading global manufacturer of premium building products with locations in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. The company pioneered technology in fiber cement production since the 1980s and now is a leader in the manufacturing of fiber gypsum products as well through its ownership of Germany-based Fermacell, which it acquired in 2018.
A community’s ability to showcase large-scale, shovel-ready tracts of land to potential investors vastly increases its ability to secure jobs and capital investment at the local level. One of the factors that led James Hardie to Prattville, Alabama in 2017 for its facility is AdvantageSite status. AdvantageSite status allowed South Industrial Park in Autauga County to be marketed around the world. Factors consistent with all AdvantageSites include contiguous land space, large-scale utility capacities (including fiber internet), multimodal transportation, and the ability to accommodate a large amount of square footage. The public and private sector has embraced James Hardie’s presence in our state, which has led the company to announce in August 2022 that it will double its square footage and add 200 jobs to the Prattville/Autauga County location. We are thankful for James Hardie’s investment in the Prattville community and state of Alabama. #Our67
