On Saturday the US Space and Rocket Center hosted Team Alabama International Drone Day. Drone technology is more than a hobby. The military has been using drones for years in areas such as the National Guard Counterdrug Program. Thank you to everyone at the Space and Rocket Center who coordinated such an informative event.
Saturday evening at the Farm to Table Dinner we enjoyed learning more about Nexus Energy Center and their collaboration with organizations around our city and county. One that touched my heart was The Comfort Project, a partnership with CASA to provide more energy-efficient homes to the aging population in our area. When you can make small improvements to decrease the amount of a utility bill for an elderly person on a fixed income, it makes a difference! Thank you, Nexus!
Racing for 7 on May 7 !! / This morning at 7 the children and I obtained fuel at Starbucks on Governors Drive. We then started our engine and headed South on 77. The momentum continued to Talledega Superspeedway where we visited with #7 and #77. Now we are back home and revved up for the week in Senate District 7.
Horses have always brought me joy. Therefore, I have a favorite race of the year, which may not be the race initially expected ;) ... The Derby.
Today Always Dreaming blazed through the finish line at the 143rd Kentucky Derby. As we would say at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), Charge On!
Blue skies graced downtown Huntsville at the annual Mayor's Bike Ride today, a part of the Healthy Huntsville initiative. Thank you to Mayor Tommy Battle for hosting such a great event, which included the unveiling of Zagster bike rentals and plans to integrate cycling even more so into our area. We all enjoyed the four-mile ride!
Shop Local. Shop the Greene Street Market. Thank you to all of the vendors and participants in yesterday’s annual opening night of Greene Street Market at Nativity.
Purchases from local businesses help keep revenue in our local economy and allow us to support our friends and neighbors. Greene Street Market occurs every Thursday from 4PM-7PM through the summer and offers a variety of fresh foods, drinks, and gifts from local farmers and artisans. #iHeartHSV
It is always a pleasure to see the Alpha Kappa Alpha ladies (AKA's) out in the community. Their sorority has lent a helping hand at charitable and civic events in Huntsville and Madison County since 1949. Thank you, AKA's!
While in Washington this week I was able to experience a defining moment in my life, the ability to kneel and pray in the Congressional Prayer Room at the Capitol. The majestic presence of God was overwhelming. This was a divine appointment during the week that led to this National Day of Prayer, and I owe much gratitude to my friend Mo Brooks.
Congratulations to LINE-X of Huntsville on recently being named by the Business Council of Alabama as Alabama Manufacturer of the Year. It was exciting to see a Huntsville-based business win in the medium-sized category, and amidst a time of expansion within Madison County, we could not be more happy for our friends at LINE-X!
Congratulations to the Lady Senators on your victory as Class 7A, Area 8 Champs.
It takes a team to build Madison County. I am so proud of you all! ;)
Small businesses are a vital part of our local economy. Congratulations to DanTera Salon & Day Spa on your expansion into Huntsville's Medical District.
Thank you to Congressman Mo Brooks and Mrs. Martha Brooks for the insightful Capitol tour, and thank you for all you do on our behalf in Washington. We appreciate you!
While in the US Capitol, a colleague photographed this as I stood next to a statue of President Reagan. (We did not realize the resemblance until afterwards, however.)
"Don't be afraid to see what you see."
- Ronald Reagan
Thank you to everyone who participated in Panoply 2017! Panoply is one of the southeast's largest art festivals and his held annually in downtown Huntsville. It was a joy to see the community interaction with the various exhibits in the newly renovated Big Spring Park!
On Military Salute Night at Panoply, I enjoyed catching up with a Korean War Veteran known locally as "Pops."
Thank you to all who serve and who have served in the Armed Forces. Our hearts are forever indebted to you.
